Residential
Our experience can help you build the home you want, no matter what size project you have. There are a lot of options out there today for residential design, including homebuilders, off the shelf plans, or even do-it-yourself software. What most of these can't do is really understand YOUR needs. We don't have one-sized fits all solution. Our approach is to sit down with you, to understand your specific needs and desires. Only at that point, we can begin to formulate a solution.
Typically, a project would start with us sitting down with you to discuss the overall scope of the project, and a general idea of what you are looking for. At this point, a formal proposal of the Architect's cost can be made. Depending on the type and scope, a contract can range from an hourly rate to a lump sum to a percentage of the final construction cost. We then start to formulate a design by talking with you about your needs and desires, both functional and stylistically, as well as understanding how you use your home currently. While many people don't have a complete picture of what they want, they do have many different ideas for bits and pieces of the design. These ideas can be from anywhere, whether you've seen in magazines, in other homes you have seen that you like, or even ideas that you have seen on the many DIY TV shows out there today. All of these items help inform the design.
Another way to aid the design process is by using computer renderings. We can produce three-dimensional computer models to allow you experience and critique the design. These can range from simple spatial models to photo-realistic renderings of the final product.
As the design progresses from plans to finishes to details, there are numerous opportunities for feedback to allow the design and the budget to find a happy medium. Once the design is settled upon, we would then finalize construction documents. These include drawings and specifications to allow you to obtain competitive and consistent bids from contractors, as well as to allow for permitting and construction.
Often, clients like us to provide construction administration services as well. This means we act as your agent to review the contractor's progress and quality, to insure you get what you paid for.
